Center DirectorGeneral, Laparoscopic & Bariatric Surgeon โ 35+ Years of Surgical Leadership
Welcome to The Medicity. For over three decades, I have practiced general, laparoscopic, and bariatric surgery โ and in that time, I have learned that skill in the operating theatre is never inherited, it is built, procedure by procedure, under the right guidance.
That is the standard we hold ourselves to here. As Center Director, my responsibility is simple to state and demanding to deliver: every surgeon and gynaecologist who trains at The Medicity should leave with the same operative confidence I expect of myself in the OT. We do not believe in training built on observation alone. Our fellows work through real cases, real complications, and real decision-making โ because that is the only training that holds up once you are back in your own operating room.
Whether you are here to master minimal access surgery, refine your bariatric technique, or simply raise the ceiling on what your practice can offer your patients, I want you to know this: you are training under people who still operate, still teach, and still hold ourselves accountable to the outcomes we produce. That is my personal commitment to every doctor who walks through our doors.
As Center Director, Dr. Chhabra sets the clinical and academic benchmark across The Medicity's fellowship and diploma programs โ overseeing curriculum rigor, mentoring faculty, and ensuring every trainee is held to the operative discipline he has built his own career on. His leadership reflects what The Medicity stands for: training led by surgeons who are still operating, not names licensed to a brochure.
Dr. Suresh Chhabra is a General Surgeon with over 35 years of clinical experience, specialising in Advanced Minimal Access and Bariatric Surgery. He completed his MBBS from Maharishi Dayanand University in 1985 and his MS in General Surgery from the University of Delhi in 1994, building a career defined by precision in advanced laparoscopic technique and metabolic surgery.
Over more than three decades in practice, Dr. Chhabra has performed a wide range of routine and advanced laparoscopic procedures, with a particular focus on minimal access and bariatric surgery โ disciplines that now define modern standards of care for complex abdominal and metabolic conditions. His long-standing clinical practice and academic contributions have earned him recognition among peer surgical bodies both in India and internationally.
He is a Life Member of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), a Fellow of the Indian Association of Gastro-Endoscopic Surgeons (IAGES), and a Fellow in Minimal Access Surgery โ credentials that reflect sustained, peer-recognised expertise in the field. He also holds membership with the Asia Pacific Hernia Society (APHS), extending his professional standing across the region.
From medical school to the operating theatre to leading The Medicity โ a career shaped entirely around surgical practice, not administration alone.
Completed his foundational medical degree, beginning a career that would come to centre on general and gastrointestinal surgery.
Specialised in general surgery, building the technical foundation for the advanced laparoscopic and bariatric work that would define his later career.
As laparoscopic technique matured in India, Dr. Chhabra built a practice around advanced minimal access and bariatric procedures โ performing hundreds of routine and complex surgeries and steadily building the peer recognition that led to his ASI and IAGES credentials.
Three and a half decades of hands-on operating experience across general, laparoscopic, hernia, and bariatric surgery โ a practice built entirely on real cases, not classroom theory alone.
Now leads The Medicity's surgical training standard โ setting curriculum rigor, mentoring faculty, and personally supervising fellows through real operating theatre experience.
Decades of hands-on practice across the disciplines that now define modern minimal access and metabolic surgery.
Routine and complex laparoscopic procedures performed with a technique refined over 35+ years of continuous surgical practice.
