Dr. (prof.) Ajay Kumar Kriplani

Dr. A K Kriplani, has achieved numerous milestones in the field of medicine. He was awarded the Dr. B C Roy National Award for Best Talents, which is presented by the Medical Council of India to recognize the merit of an eminent doctor for his contribution in the field of medicine. The President of India conferred the award on him at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Dr. Kriplani has been involved in the specialty of minimal access, bariatric, and GI surgery for 40 years. He has played a crucial role in propagating and teaching the skills of minimal access surgery to other surgeons. He was the President of the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons for the years 2008-2010. He is the first surgeon in India to perform laparoscopic adrenalectomy and the first laparoscopic Whipple’s pancreatico-dudodenectomy in North India.

  • Dr A.K. Kriplani is one of the most respected surgeon in the field of laparoscopic and gastrointestinal surgery in India .
  • With an experience of over 40 years, he is among the first few surgeons to introduce laparoscopic surgery in India & also advancing it to the next levels.
  • He was the first one to perform laparoscopic adrenalectomy, laparoscopic splenectomy and laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy for renal transplant in India.
  • He has been awarded with many International awards and honour’s including the prestigious Dr S.R. Joglekar Award and Dr N. Sethuraman Oration. 
  • He has trained hundreds of surgeons in laparoscopic surgery from India and adjoining countries like Nepal, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc.

  • Dr Kriplani has been invited nationally and internationally for delivering guest lectures and demonstration of live laparoscopic surgeries.

Dr. Kriplani has been invited to be a faculty member for live demonstrations, guest lectures, orations, and keynote addresses in conferences in various Indian cities and other countries such as Rome, Hongkong, Kualalumpur, Singapore, Korea, Tashkent, Dubai, Kathmandu, and Dhaka. He has also organized ten national conferences, CMEs, and workshops and has trained hundreds of surgeons in laparoscopic surgery from India and other countries. His teaching videos on laparoscopic procedures are very popular, and more than 2,00,000 surgeons from all over the world have benefitted by watching his techniques.

The Bidhan Chandra (B C) Roy Award, presented on National Doctors’ Day, July 1, was instituted in 1976 in memory of B. C. Roy by the Medical Council of India to recognize the contributions of distinguished doctors.
