In 2017, the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, UK, conferred upon him the Honorary FRCS title. In 2016, he received an Honorary D.Sc. degree from Amity University. He was also awarded the Honorary FRCS title by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow, UK, in 2012, and received the FRCS title from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow, in 2005.

He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences since 2005 and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, holding an M.S. degree in General Surgery from the University of Allahabad in 1979. He completed his undergraduate medical degree, MBBS, from Kanpur University in 1975.

He was also awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons, Glasgow, and the National Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 2005, Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow, UK in 2012, and Honorary Doctorate from Amity University in 2016. In May 2017, he was conferred with the Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, UK.

Furthermore, he was appointed as an Advisor by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, for planning, designing, and mentoring AIIMS, Nagpur. He was awarded the IMA Eminent Medical Teacher Award for the year 2016.

Dr. (Prof) M.C. Misra formerly the Director of AIIMS from 2013-2017 and former Head of the Department of General Surgery at AIIMS, is renowned not only for his expertise in general and laparoscopic surgery but also for his unending passion for teaching, learning, and innovation.

Dr. M C Misra, a distinguished figure in the realm of General and Minimal Access Surgery, stands as a beacon of excellence in the medical field. His expertise in these domains has been honed through extensive experience and a commitment to advancing surgical practices.

Dr. M C Misra profound knowledge and contributions have earned him acclaim, establishing him as a leading authority in Minimal Access Surgery. His relentless pursuit of excellence led to Minimal Access Surgery, aimed at nurturing and training aspiring surgeons in these advanced techniques.

Recognizing the need for specialized trauma care early on, he founded the Apex Trauma Center at AIIMS. He has published over 198 original articles in indexed international journals and received several awards and recognitions throughout his career, including the Commonwealth Medical Fellowship in 1988 for trauma care services training and the Dr. B C Roy National Award of the Medical Council of India in 1996 for developing minimally invasive surgery as a specialty in the country.
