Live OT Exposure

OT Exposure

Participants gain direct in-theatre exposure across two days. Under faculty supervision, they observe live patient procedures, learn OT protocols, and — where permitted — scrub in for hands-on assistance during endoscopic cases.

  • Diagnostic upper GI endoscopy (OGD)
  • Therapeutic endoscopy — variceal band ligation
  • Haemostatic injection sclerotherapy
  • Foreign body retrieval procedures
  • Polypectomy using cold & hot snare
  • Targeted and systematic biopsy procedures
  • Argon plasma coagulation (APC)
  • PEG tube insertion (observation)
  • ERCP — diagnostic and therapeutic (observation)
  • Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) overview
  • Haemostatic clip application
  • Capsule endoscopy review and reporting
Note: OT exposure depends on the institutional case load on the days of the program. Hands-on scrubbing in advanced procedures is at faculty discretion and subject to patient consent.

Wet Lab Training — Day 3

The Day 3 wet lab uses a validated pig model to simulate real GI tissue texture, resistance, and mucosal anatomy. Each participant performs a full sequence of endoscopic manoeuvres with direct faculty observation and real-time correction.

Pig Model — Upper GI Endoscopy

  • Gastric intubation — fundus, body, antrum inspection
  • Duodenal intubation and visualisation
  • Systematic mucosal inspection protocol
  • Retroflexion manoeuvre in stomach
  • Targeted biopsy — forceps technique
  • Snare polypectomy on mucosal targets
